The Clay Homes housing project is one of the oldest housing projects in
the United States, having been built in 1941. It stands in the middle of downtown Marietta, GA. Built before desegregation,it wasn't until the
1960’s that Clay Homes became low income housing for both blacks and
whites. In an attempt to increase the city’s tax revenues the Clay Homes
housing project is being torn down and replaced with expensive homes
and stores. This “redevelopment” by the city is uprooting a community
that is bound together by its common hardships. This web site is our
attempt to document Clay Homes experience.
